Algerian players angrily confronted referee Isaa Sy following their 2–0 defeat to Nigeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

After the final whistle, Sy was escorted to the dressing room for his safety amid clashes between Algerian supporters and stadium security. Officials of the Desert Foxes also approached the referee on the pitch, protesting his decisions.

The tension reportedly spilled into the stadium tunnel, where the match officials continued to face harassment. Sources say the Algerian camp was dissatisfied with several officiating calls made during the encounter.

Nigeria sealed the victory with second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, setting up a semi-final showdown with tournament hosts Morocco.
