The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the housing shortfall in 2026, announcing plans to deliver additional residential units across the state.
The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, made the disclosure while reviewing the ministry’s achievements for 2025, highlighting the successful completion and commissioning of the Akinsanya Sunny Ajose and Abraham Adesanya Housing Schemes, Parcels A and B.
According to the Commissioner, the timely delivery of all ongoing housing projects remains a top priority for the administration, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision for the year ahead.
He called on department heads and project teams to ensure that all works reflect meticulous planning, adherence to quality standards, and excellence in execution.
“We must intensify our efforts to ensure that Sangotedo Phase II, Egan-Igando Clusters II and III, Ibeshe Phase II, and all joint-venture housing projects are completed and ready for commissioning by the Governor,” he said.
Mr. Akinderu-Fatai also emphasized the importance of collaboration with private developers, financial institutions, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of housing initiatives, consistent with the THEMES Plus development agenda.
Speaking during the ministry’s New Year prayer session, Permanent Secretary Abdulhafis Toriola stressed the value of diligence, integrity, and professionalism in public service. He encouraged staff to approach their duties with commitment and a sense of responsibility.
The Permanent Secretary noted that the ministry is stepping up efforts to address abandoned buildings across Lagos, leveraging existing legal frameworks under the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority (LASRERA) Law to complete these properties. The initiative is expected to boost housing supply, improve urban infrastructure, and enhance public safety.
He further recalled that Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration has delivered over 12,000 housing units to beneficiaries across Lagos State over the past six years, underscoring the government’s sustained focus on addressing the state’s housing challenges.
