Celebrity fashion entrepreneur Toyin Lawani has publicly accused Lagos-based Euracare Hospital of medical negligence, citing long-term health complications following a spine surgery implant at the facility. Her disclosure comes shortly after author Chimamanda Adichie served the hospital with a legal notice over alleged professional misconduct that led to the death of her 21-month-old son.
In a series of Instagram posts, Lawani detailed a harrowing ordeal, including multiple emergency surgeries, a collapsed lung, damaged vocal cords, and temporary loss of mobility. She described a post-operative period marked by severe complications and inadequate care, which eventually required her transfer to the United Kingdom for further emergency treatment.
Lawani revealed that she spent two months in the hospital and an additional month in rehabilitation, enduring bedsores and relearning basic physical functions. She noted that she is still undergoing speech therapy and continues to manage the physical and emotional aftermath of the experience.
The entrepreneur said she spent over N100 million on treatment at Euracare and promised legal action once fully recovered. She also criticized the Nigerian healthcare system for lax regulation, warning patients to exercise caution.
“Seeing Chimamanda’s case today triggered me to speak up so that others can be protected. This is not just about me; it is about accountability and ensuring patients receive safe, professional care,” Lawani said.
