Bandits have reportedly killed two persons and abducted several others during an attack on Bargaja village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The Sokoto State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufai, said the assailants were suspected to be gunmen linked to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.

Rufai stated that a comprehensive account of the incident would be made available after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area submits a detailed field report to the state command.

He confirmed that two people lost their lives in the attack but said the exact number of those abducted was yet to be determined, pending further information from the DPO.

Security sources and residents disclosed that Bargaja had come under attack days earlier, indicating repeated raids along the Sokoto–Zamfara axis. The continued assaults have reportedly triggered fresh displacement, with many villagers fleeing to Isa town and nearby communities.

Despite repeated assurances from security agencies, Isa, Sabon Birni and other parts of eastern Sokoto State have continued to experience attacks, kidnappings and displacement.

Reports also indicate a growing influx of displaced persons from Tidibale Ward into Isa town, as farming and pastoral settlements increasingly come under threat.

A source lamented that Tidibale Ward had been severely affected by the activities of Bello Turji, calling for urgent intervention by federal, state and local authorities. The source warned that civilians in the area were rapidly becoming “refugees in their own land.”

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Sokoto State Government nor the Isa Local Government Council had issued an official response to the incident.
