DELTA STATE LEGISLATOR REMOVED AMID ALLEGATIONS OF GROSS MISCONDUCT

Ughelli North Legislative Leader Impeached Over Alleged Misconduct
Rt. Hon. Ajero Prosper Okeoghene, leader of the Ughelli North Local Government Legislative Arm, has been impeached over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office.
The impeachment was approved by 12 of the 18 councillors present at a plenary session held on Wednesday at the legislative chamber.
According to the councillors, Okeoghene failed to meet the constitutional requirements to lead the 8th Assembly and was unable to effectively manage the House. They cited misappropriation of funds, refusal to convene plenary sessions on schedule, high-handedness, gross misconduct, and excessive alcohol consumption as reasons for his removal.
The motion for his impeachment was moved by Hon. Onome Isherhe (Ughelli Ward 12) and seconded by Hon. Clever Erhuvwu Ofariko (Orogun Ward 3). The subsequent motion to appoint a new leader was moved by Hon. Collins Oghenebrorhie Arhiakpore (Agbarha Ward 2) and seconded by Hon. Felicia Diedjomaho (Agbarho Ward 1).

Other councillors who signed the impeachment include Hon. Orido December, Hon. Victor, Hon. Igogono Goddey, Hon. Inana Oke Festus, Hon. Joseph Friday Obara, and Hon. Palmer Israel.
The new leader of the Ughelli North Legislative Arm is Rt. Hon. Solomon Oghenero Agbini, representing Ogor Ward 1.
Attempts to reach Okeoghene for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
