JAMB WARNS CANDIDATES AGAINST NIN MISUSE AHEAD OF 2026 UTME/DE REGISTRATION
By Aishat Momoh. O.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned candidates against misuse of their National Identification Numbers (NIN) as the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration exercise approaches.
The Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, issued the warning during an interactive meeting with JAMB management in preparation for the sale of application forms and registration for the upcoming exams. The notice was published in the Board’s weekly bulletin on Monday.
“Multiple/double registrations coupled with the use of multiple National Identification Numbers by a single candidate for the purpose of double registration, impersonation, or any form of identity manipulation is strictly prohibited and will be severely sanctioned,” Prof. Oloyede stated.
He also cautioned candidates against impersonation, extortion, image blending, group registration, inappropriate movement of routers, donating fingerprints, and other irregularities that could compromise the integrity of the examinations.
The Registrar specifically warned against donating or accepting fingers to expedite biometric capturing, stressing that “only your own ten fingers should be captured individually and correctly at the CBT centre,” noting that violations would attract severe sanctions.
Prof. Oloyede reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to its cashless registration system, which centralises the collection of all third-party fees, with remittances made to beneficiaries weekly. Administrators and tellers from partnering financial institutions—including banks, microfinance institutions, and mobile money operators—are required to register their NINs with JAMB to ensure accountability in the e-PIN vending process.

The Registrar also briefed participants on registration timelines and costs:
DE application documents: N5,700
UTME without Mock: N7,200
UTME with Mock: N8,700
UTME candidates will register first, followed by DE candidates. The sale of UTME application documents—including the creation of profiles, will begin 19th January and close 26th February 2026. The actual UTME registration period at approved CBT centres runs from 26th January to 28th February 2026, with Mock Selection closing on 16th February 2026.
DE registration and e-PIN vending will start on 2nd March and end on 25th April 2026, with registration available only at JAMB offices.
The Board urged candidates to comply with all regulations to ensure a smooth and credible examination process.
