Afrobeats sensation Ikuforiji Olaitan, widely known as Oxlade, has opened up about why he steers clear of smoking and hard drugs.
In a revealing conversation with the media, Oxlade credited his strong Christian upbringing and musically rich family background for his avoidance of vices.
The “Ku Lo Sa” hitmaker highlighted that his journey in music began in the church choir, an experience that shaped both his character and his approach to the craft.
“I don’t smoke. I don’t take drugs. I’ve been a choir coordinator across all age groups—children’s church, teen church, youth choir, and the mass choir,” he said.
“All my life has been in the choir. I come from a musically gifted family: my grandma is a deaconess and an excellent singer, my granddad was a multi-instrumentalist, and my mum could sing and dance. I even have a pastor in the family. My gift in gospel music comes from this background—gospel music is truly the best,” Oxlade added.

He further reflected on his career, saying, “No matter how people see me, God is blessing me just as He blesses others. You can’t tour 40 cities with your debut album if God doesn’t ordain it. As long as He guides these steps, there’s nothing to worry about.”
