The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have announced plans to stage a peaceful solidarity rally on February 3 in support of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) and striking Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) workers.

The announcement was made in a joint statement signed by Mr. Benson Upah, General Secretary of the NLC, and Mr. Nuhu Toro, Secretary General of the TUC, in Abuja.

The rally comes in solidarity with the indefinite strike that began on January 19, led by JUAC, over unpaid salaries and unresolved labour grievances. The strike has paralyzed key administrative offices, including the FCTA Secretariat and the FCDA, following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued on January 7 demanding redress from FCTA management.

According to the unions, the rally is meant to reaffirm labour’s collective principle that “an injury to one worker is an injury to all.”

“The action will send a clear message that labour will resist all forms of intimidation and injustice against workers,” the statement read.

The NLC and TUC stressed that their support for JUAC members is total and unwavering, describing the struggle as legitimate, non-negotiable, and to be sustained until justice is achieved. They called on JUAC members to remain steadfast, courageous, and united in defending their rights.

The unions emphasised that the rally would be lawful and peaceful, directed at the FCDA, and urged all affiliates and state councils to mobilise members for the demonstration.

“Intimidation and repression will not weaken workers’ resolve,” the unions added, reiterating that workers’ rights are won through collective struggle, not given.

They assured workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that they would not be abandoned in their fight for justice.
