The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of interfering in the ongoing area council elections in Abuja. The party warned that his presence around polling units could intimidate voters and compromise the credibility of the process.
In a statement, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi criticised Wike’s movements under the pretext of “monitoring” and urged party agents to document any irregularities during the polls.
“We strongly condemn the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, moving across polling units under the guise of monitoring,” the party said. “His activities, including imposing a curfew on potential voters, amount to direct interference in the election.”
The ADC noted that Wike is not a registered voter in the FCT and, as a partisan cabinet minister, has no constitutional role in the exercise. “His presence during active voting is both meddlesome and likely to intimidate voters and officials,” the party said.

The party also reported instances of voter suppression and intimidation in parts of the FCT, alleging collusion between All Progressives Congress (APC) agents and some security personnel.
In addition, the ADC raised concerns over disruptions to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), which remained inaccessible as results were being collated. Abdullahi described the situation as suspicious and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore full functionality and provide a public explanation.
“We urge all our party agents and voters to remain calm yet vigilant and to document any incidents,” the party added.
