Atletico Madrid suffered a 3-0 defeat to Barcelona in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final on Tuesday but advanced to the final with a 4-3 aggregate victory.

The Spanish champions came close to staging a remarkable turnaround after their 4-0 first-leg loss in early February but ultimately fell short at Camp Nou.

Teenager Marc Bernal struck twice, while Raphinha converted a penalty as Barcelona pushed to overturn Diego Simeone’s side’s advantage.

Atletico, who held on under intense late pressure, reached the final for the first time since 2013.

They will take on either Real Sociedad or Athletic Bilbao, who clash on Wednesday in the second leg of the other semi-final.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult match — overturning a 4-0 deficit is never easy. But I’m proud of the team; we gave it our all,” Raphinha told Movistar.

“We’re disappointed because we wanted to reach the final, and based on our performance, I believe we deserved it. Still, we have to give credit to Atletico — they’re a strong side, they protected their advantage and executed their plan well.”
