Repair works on the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are set to resume fully on Wednesday after a temporary suspension due to heavy gridlock.

The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Layi Komolafe, announced that the ongoing replacement of expansion joints on the outward Lagos section of the bridge is mandatory and cannot be delayed further.

Komolafe said the exercise, which was halted on Saturday because of traffic congestion, will recommence on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He called for cooperation from relevant traffic management and security agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lagos State Police Command, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), to manage the anticipated traffic build-up.

He noted that vehicular movement within Lagos is likely to be significantly affected and appealed to motorists to comply with directives from traffic officials.

However, concerns remain over the feasibility of the timeline. FRSC authorities have expressed uncertainty about whether the work will indeed restart as scheduled.

Last month, the FRSC disclosed that repairs on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway would require between six weeks and two months for full completion to allow proper sealing of repaired sections. The Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ganiyu Hamzat, said damaged portions of the road had contributed to accidents, as motorists attempting to avoid bad spots often collided with other vehicles.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway remains one of Nigeria’s busiest highways, serving as a critical link between Lagos, the nation’s commercial hub, and the South-East, South-South, and other regions of the country.
