Vehicular movement along the busy Ahmadu Bello Way in Abuja was brought to a halt on Saturday as thousands of supporters and delegates stormed the venue of the national convention of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The heavy traffic congestion caused by the massive turnout extended to adjoining roads and major intersections within the Central Area, leaving many motorists stranded for hours.
Our correspondent observed that traders occupied road shoulders and open spaces around the venue, taking advantage of the gathering to make brisk business from party supporters and guests attending the convention.

Supporters of the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient Movements were also seen dancing, chanting solidarity songs, and celebrating around the venue, making access difficult for guests and motorists attempting to pass through the area.
Security personnel were deployed to maintain order and ease the growing traffic congestion as political activities intensified around the convention ground.
The development comes as the Nigeria Democratic Congress formally zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria for a single four-year term, a move widely viewed as capable of reshaping opposition politics ahead of the next general election.

The resolution was adopted during the party’s National Convention in Abuja after delegates unanimously backed a motion moved by the member representing Ogbaru Constituency of Anambra State in the 10th National Assembly, Afam Victor Ogene.
The zoning arrangement is also expected to strengthen the position of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, and other southern aspirants within the emerging opposition coalition.
