Vice President Kashim Shettima has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its online membership registration, claiming the system has been flooded with fake identities.

He also mocked the opposition party for its persistent calls for real-time electronic transmission of election results.

The Media reports that the ADC launched nationwide online membership registration on March 1 ahead of the 2027 general election, in line with the amended Electoral Act.

The party directed existing members to update and revalidate their information to comply with the Electoral Act 2026 and guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, the registration exercise has faced challenges, with reports of incorrect details, including fake names, National Identification Numbers, and mismatched photographs, raising questions about the integrity of the process.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ADC said it had corrected anomalies on its digital membership platform following widespread reports of fraudulent entries.

Speaking on Wednesday at an interfaith breaking of fast attended by federal ministers and hosted by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima claimed the party’s registration portal had been overwhelmed with fictitious entries.

“The same Alliance for Democratic Confusion that insisted on electronic transmission of votes opened its membership registration portal, only for it to be overwhelmed by a flood of fake names and fictitious identities,” he said.

Vice President Kashim Shettima accused the opposition of spreading falsehoods and misinformation about the policies of the Tinubu administration.

“You and I know that, as Winston Churchill once said, ‘truth is so precious that it must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies.’ Lies, lies, lies — that is what is driving the opposition in this country,” he said.

Shettima also urged political officeholders to defend the policies and achievements of the current administration as the next election cycle approaches.

“Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the political season is around the corner. We are all political actors. We have to sell our government. We have to stand behind our administration,” he said.

The former governor of Borno State added that the ruling party is now in a stronger position than it was during the 2023 general election.

“Politically speaking, we are in a more comfortable position now than in 2023,” he said.

Shettima also dismissed claims that state governors were being pressured to join the ruling party.

“No one is forcing the governors of Rivers, Delta, Kano, or any other state to join the APC. Their decision is voluntary because they have seen the light,” he added.
