Korede Fasoyin, son of renowned Christ Apostolic Church gospel singer Deborah Fasoyin, widely known for her song “Odun n Lo Sopin,” has dismissed viral reports claiming that his mother has died.

Speaking with The PUNCH on Monday, Korede described the social media reports about the veteran singer’s alleged death as false.

The rumour had circulated widely online, with several posts featuring Mama Fasoyin’s photograph accompanied by “RIP” captions, while many users shared condolence messages.

Reacting to the situation, Korede said the family had begun working on a video to further address the misinformation and reassure well-wishers.

“My mother is alive. The reports about her death are false. We are already preparing a video where she will speak,” he said.

He added that the family began receiving numerous calls from both within and outside Nigeria shortly after the rumour surfaced.

“I started getting calls from Nigeria and abroad since midnight, with people asking if she had died. I don’t know the mischievous person who posted that without verifying the information,” he said.

Mama Fasoyin recently marked her 86th birthday on March 1, 2026.

She is a highly respected gospel singer within the Christ Apostolic Church and beyond, widely recognised for the popular Yoruba gospel song “Odun n Lo Sopin.”

Over the years, her music has remained influential in Nigerian gospel circles, earning her admiration across generations of church music enthusiasts.
