The Ogun State Police Command on Friday conducted a major enforcement operation targeting illegal structures, shanties, and street obstructions along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway in Ifo, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and enhance public safety.
The initiative, carried out under the directive of the State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, is part of a broader campaign called “No Traffic Gridlock,” which seeks to remove unauthorised constructions and traders’ encroachments that hinder the smooth flow of traffic.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, told journalists that officers from the Ifo Division were deployed to key areas, particularly the Abekoko and Old Bank axis, where persistent traffic disruptions had been reported.

“During the operation, several planks, shanties, and wares obstructing the highway were dismantled and removed, with over six trucks used for evacuation. Fifteen individuals who disobeyed lawful directives and violated environmental regulations were arrested and will face court proceedings upon completion of investigations,” Babaseyi said.
The enforcement targeted both illegal displays by traders and makeshift structures that violated environmental laws while disrupting traffic flow.
Ojajuni praised the officers for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to enforcing traffic and environmental regulations.
“Anyone found obstructing public roads will face appropriate legal action,” he warned, urging traders, transport operators, and the public to adhere to regulations to ensure safety.
The operation highlights the Ogun State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to maintain safe, orderly, and unobstructed roadways, particularly on major highways connecting urban centres.
