Uche Odunzeh, who once ran for governor in Imo State as a candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party and is closely linked to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is preparing to become a member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
The move comes as political activity in Imo begins to pick up ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties and key actors repositioning.Odunzeh has support in parts of the state, particularly in Orlu zone, where he gained traction in the last governorship race.

A senior ADC official in Imo State, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development to Press in Abuja on Thursday.

“Odunzeh is a politician with experience, integrity, and a strong support base. His entry will reinvigorate our structure and enhance our chances in future elections,” the source said.

Odunzeh contested the 2023 governorship election under the NNPP. His expected defection could be followed by some of his supporters, a development that may affect alignments within Imo State.

He has not issued a public statement on the move. However, a formal reception is being planned, according to party sources, with party leaders and stakeholders expected to attend.

The ADC has, in recent months, received new entrants in different parts of the country as early positioning continues ahead of the next electoral cycle.
