Detectives from the Ajuwon Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspects over the alleged killing of a family member, identified as Stanley Okirie, in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects—12-year-old Jubril Karikari, 15-year-old Salia Karikari, and 35-year-old Maureen Okirie—were taken into custody around 11:15 a.m. on Thursday.
It was gathered that the minors, who are cousins to the deceased, and Maureen, his sister, all lived in the same household.
They were allegedly involved in a violent altercation in which 38-year-old Stanley was struck on the head with a wooden pestle during a family dispute.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi told DAILY POST on Friday that the arrests followed a tip-off about suspicious activity in the area.
According to him, detectives arrived at the scene and apprehended Maureen, who was allegedly attempting to bury the blood-stained body in a shallow grave.
He described the act as an attempt to conceal the crime, adding that the suspects allegedly conspired both in the killing and in trying to cover it up.
The PPRO said, “The suspects were apprehended on Thursday, 9th April 2026, at about 1115hrs, following an anonymous tip-off regarding suspicious activities in the area.
“Acting promptly on the information, detectives arrived at the scene and caught one of the suspects attempting to bury a blood-drenched corpse in a shallow grave, in what is suspected to be an effort to conceal the crime.
“Preliminary examination of the body revealed a severe injury to the victim’s head.”
Babaseyi stated that the suspected murder weapon has been recovered, and the body has been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe, for autopsy.
He noted that the suspects are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, while condemning the act, described it as a cruel, inhumane and deeply disturbing incident, particularly as it involved close family members.
He emphasized that such acts of violence and attempts to conceal crimes will not be tolerated under any circumstance, assuring that the command is fully committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, and that all those found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
