The immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

Tuggar, who resigned his ministerial position in March 2026, said his decision was in line with the directive of Bola Tinubu requiring political appointees seeking elective offices to step down.

Speaking on Saturday during a visit to the All Progressives Congress office in Bauchi ahead of his formal declaration, he emphasised party unity as key to reclaiming power in the state.

“I approached the party office before moving to the declaration ground because the party is the first point of call. As directed by the President, I resigned my position on March 31,” he said.

He pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate if he does not secure the ticket.

“My political philosophy is that whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer, I will not take my fellow party member to court. I will support and wish the person well,” Tuggar added.

At the declaration venue, the former minister said his ambition was driven by a desire to improve the welfare of citizens, noting that the state faces challenges including poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and limited access to quality education and healthcare.

He outlined plans to boost economic growth through agriculture, support for small and medium enterprises, and development of solid minerals. He also promised prompt payment of salaries, improved market infrastructure, and enhanced rural development.

On security, Tuggar pledged stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies, improved intelligence gathering, and targeted efforts to address root causes such as youth unemployment and drug abuse.

“We will ensure that no farmer fears going to the farm, no trader fears the road, and no child fears going to school,” he said.

He further promised reforms in education, including tackling out-of-school children, investing in teachers, and expanding vocational training, alongside promoting digital innovation among youths.

In the health sector, he pledged accessible and affordable primary healthcare services, as well as social protection for vulnerable groups.

Tuggar also assured that his administration would prioritise transparency, civil service reforms, infrastructure development, and inclusive governance, with attention to women and minority communities.

“This is not just my ambition; it is a collective mission to move Bauchi State forward,” he said.
