LASPA COMMENCES ENGAGEMENT ON ON-STREET PAID PARKING SCHEME IN IKEJA
As part of efforts to deepen stakeholder collaboration for improved parking management across Lagos State, the General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, today paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area (LGA), Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda.
During the meeting, Mrs. Adelabu explained that the visit was aimed at sensitising the leadership of the Local Government on LASPA’s ongoing activities to ensure orderly parking in the state, as well as to brief them on expansion plans and introduce the proposed On-Street Parking Scheme, which will require motorists to pay for designated parking spaces.
She noted that the On-Street Parking Scheme is expected to commence in 2026 as a pilot programme across selected Local Government Areas, including Ikeja LGA.
The General Manager further highlighted LASPA’s mandate in regulating parking in Lagos State, explaining that while parking management was initially under the jurisdiction of Local Government Areas, it was later transferred to LASPA by the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state.
She outlined the benefits of the proposed scheme, including improved parking organisation, better traffic flow, and employment opportunities, particularly for residents within participating communities.
Mrs. Adelabu also emphasised that Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas stand to gain significantly from LASPA’s initiatives, depending on the level of cooperation in implementing the On-Street Parking Scheme and other parking management strategies.
She reaffirmed LASPA’s commitment to collaboration, noting that the Authority remains open to feedback and contributions from local government authorities and other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and sustainable urban development.
In his response, the Chairman of Ikeja LGA expressed appreciation for the visit and commended LASPA’s efforts in improving parking management across Lagos State. He pledged the support of the Local Government for effective parking regulation and called for increased sensitisation to further educate residents on proper parking practices.
