RIVERS POLICE ARREST 13 SUSPECTS OVER ASSAULT ON JOURNALIST IN PORT HARCOURT

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested 13 suspects in connection with the assault and robbery of a journalist in Port Harcourt.
The suspects are believed to be part of a criminal group operating around the Garrison axis of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, allegedly involved in phone theft and harassment of residents.
The journalist, Mr. Allwell Ene of Classic FM, was reportedly attacked while conducting an investigative report on criminal activities in the area.
According to police spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, the journalist was assaulted by hoodlums after he was allegedly seen recording their activities in a known black spot.
“The facts available indicate that one journalist, Mr. Allwell Ene, while conducting a solo investigative activity in an area marked as black spot, known for criminal activities, was attacked and physically assaulted by suspected hoodlums for video recording them,” she said.
She added that following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Olu-Obasanjo Division swiftly mobilised operatives to rescue the journalist from the scene.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugenga Adepoju, subsequently ordered a coordinated operation across the Olu-Obasanjo axis and adjoining areas, leading to the arrest of 13 suspects.
Agabe said the suspects are believed to be involved in various criminal activities, including phone theft and harassment of members of the public, adding that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and ensure prosecution.
