RESIDENTS FLEE AS CULT CLASH CLAIMS THREE LIVES

People living near the Agwan Jukun area in Makurdi town are very scared after a violent fight between two groups that are thought to be rivals. This fight caused three people to die and many others to get hurt.
The incident, which occurred yesterday evening around 8pm, forced many residents to flee their homes while business activities in the area were abruptly halted as shop owners shut down for safety.
An eyewitness, who didn’t want to be named, said the attackers came into the community in a planned way, targeting certain people. “They arrived in the area around 8pm and went directly to their targets. It was obvious they knew exactly who they were looking for,” the person said.
A resident said one victim was killed on Market Street, while others were attacked on Wukari Street.
He said the killing was part of an organized cult attack.
“The way they acted showed they weren’t just random people.
It looked like they came from outside the community but had information about their targets. Usually, there are people inside who watch what’s happening and pass on details to these groups,” he added.
After the attack, the community felt a lot of fear, especially around the market area near a small mosque, where the situation is still tense.
“People are too scared to do their usual things.
A lot of people have left their homes, and businesses are still closed,” the eyewitness said.
He also worried about possible revenge, as some young men were seen carrying weapons on Monday morning.
“This morning, some young men were around with weapons, saying there would be retaliation. You can feel the fear in the air,” he said.
Efforts to contact Mr. Joseph Keffi, the Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Council, for his response didn’t succeed.
He didn’t answer calls or reply to a message sent to his phone at the time this report was written.
Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said she was yet to receive details of the incident.
