The wife of Cross River State Governor, Mrs Eyoawan Bassey Otu, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress to set aside their differences, resolve internal disputes and unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She said party unity was essential to securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and her husband, Governor Bassey Otu, in the forthcoming polls.

Mrs Otu made the appeal at the weekend in Calabar during a meeting of the APC Campaign Council’s Women Mobilisation Directorate, organised ahead of the party’s rally in the state.

The meeting was convened at the instance of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Addressing participants, the governor’s wife urged party members to forget past disagreements and concentrate on the political task ahead.

“Whatever has been bothering us, whatever has been our pain, let’s bury the hatchet and move on,” she said.

She emphasised that the party’s immediate priority should be the re-election of Tinubu and Governor Otu in 2027.

Quoting from Ephesians 2, Mrs Otu encouraged members who felt offended or marginalised to remain committed to doing what was right, regardless of how others treated them.

“Whether they love you or not, just keep doing the right thing. At the appropriate time, the reward will come,” she added.

The governor’s wife also spoke about her contributions to healthcare delivery in the state, revealing that her free medical outreach had carried out more than 2,000 surgeries through 12 editions over the past three years.

She announced that the 13th edition of the programme would commence the following week.

Mrs Otu acknowledged that her efforts might not satisfy everyone but maintained that the interventions were designed to address gaps in healthcare delivery while the governor concentrated on governance and infrastructure development.

She also charged APC women to intensify grassroots mobilisation by taking the party’s campaign to their homes, churches, markets and neighbourhoods.

According to her, their familiarity with residents gives them an advantage in reaching voters and promoting the party.

“Talk to your neighbours about APC. Your faces have been sold. They know you already,” she said.

Also speaking, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Betta Edu, who serves as Co-Director of the APC Women Mobilisation Directorate, said the party was determined not to repeat the mistakes it made during the 2023 elections.

Edu praised the First Lady for her efforts in empowering women and highlighted the growing representation of women in the Cross River State House of Assembly.

She recalled that the assembly previously had only one female member.

The former minister told the women that their loyalty and commitment to the party would be judged by their performance at polling units rather than verbal assurances.

She also reaffirmed her allegiance to Governor Otu’s leadership, describing him and his wife as the state’s political leaders.

Edu urged the women to strengthen grassroots campaigns through door-to-door visits, church gatherings, prayer meetings and market engagements.

Warning that the election was fast approaching, she challenged participants to mobilise at least 200 votes each.

She further urged party members to work towards winning all 18 local government areas in Cross River State for Tinubu and Governor Otu in 2027.
