2027 ELECTION: SOWORE REAFFIRMS 2027 PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION AFTER DUKE’S REMARK

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has responded to Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) candidate and former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, after Duke expressed uncertainty over whether Sowore would contest the 2027 presidential election.
Duke described Sowore as a “voice of conscience,” saying the activist often speaks on issues that some politicians may avoid discussing openly due to political considerations.
“I like him. I’m not sure Sowore is running for office, with due respect to him, but I see him as a voice of conscience,” Duke said during an interview with the Naija Unfiltered Podcast.
Responding through his social media platforms on Tuesday, Sowore thanked Duke for the description but clarified that he was indeed contesting the 2027 presidential election.

Sowore said his name appeared on what he described as the final list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside Duke’s name as the PRP presidential candidate.
He said his approach to seeking the presidency differed from what he described as the conventional pursuit of political office for privileges, appointments or access to public resources.
According to Sowore, the AAC’s objective was to pursue fundamental changes to Nigeria’s political system.
He listed equal rights, justice, improved wages, quality education, healthcare, security, electricity and housing among the issues the party intends to campaign on.
Sowore also ruled out the possibility of the AAC joining an opposition coalition whose primary objective, according to him, would be to replace President Bola Tinubu with another member of the existing political establishment.
He maintained that his candidacy should not be in doubt, despite Duke’s earlier comments.
Sowore concluded by referencing Duke’s description of him as a “voice of conscience,” saying that while he accepted the description, that voice would also appear on the ballot in 2027.
He further referred to the presidential debate held during the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, telling Duke that his late arrival at the event had prevented him from clarifying his candidacy earlier.
