LAGOS APC EXPELS FORMER AGEGE COUNCIL CHAIRMAN, ASPIRANT

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, and former Agege Constituency II aspirant, Azeez Yusuf, following their defection to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The state APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced the expulsion in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday, citing alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty by the two former members.
Egunjobi and Yusuf had contested the APC primaries for Agege State Constituencies I and II respectively but failed to secure the party’s tickets before obtaining the APM tickets to contest the same positions.

Their expulsion came days after the two defended their decision to leave the APC, describing the move as an independent decision following what they termed “grave injustice” in the party’s handling of the primaries.
Ojelabi said the former members failed to accept the outcome of the APC’s internal electoral process after losing the tickets.
According to him, the party considered their actions a violation of their obligations as members and an act of anti-party activity and disloyalty.
The APC chairman said their resignation from the party amounted to an attempt to avoid the consequences of their actions.
He maintained that party membership could not be treated as something to be abandoned after an unsuccessful primary election in favour of another platform during the same electoral cycle.
Ojelabi said APC members who lose internal contests are expected either to accept the outcome or seek redress through the legitimate mechanisms provided by the party and the law.
He added that the party had invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in imposing disciplinary action against Egunjobi and Yusuf.
The chairman also linked the action to the 2026 electoral framework, stressing that political parties and actors were required to comply with the Electoral Act 2026 and regulations issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Ojelabi further stated that the two former members no longer had the authority to represent, speak for, negotiate on behalf of, or conduct any transaction in the name of the Lagos State APC or the APC.
He consequently urged party members, supporters, stakeholders and members of the public to take note of their changed status and avoid dealing with them as representatives or authorised agents of the party.
The expulsion followed Egunjobi and Yusuf’s emergence as APM candidates for the Agege State Constituencies I and II seats.
The duo had earlier denied claims that their defection was connected to the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudasiru Obasa.
They said Obasa had no involvement in their decision to leave the APC, insisting that the move was independently taken after considering their experiences within the party.
Egunjobi and Yusuf also said they had remained with the APC despite previous political challenges but decided to leave after what they described as “grave injustice” and the absence of meaningful reconciliation following the disputed primaries.
They said they had submitted petitions and sought redress within the APC but were dissatisfied that the party leadership neither invited them for reconciliation nor provided what they considered a satisfactory resolution to their grievances.
