2027 ELECTION: YAYI PROMISES 500,000 JOBS, LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTONOMY

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, has pledged to create more than 500,000 jobs and train 100,000 youths in digital skills if elected governor in the 2027 general election.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, also promised to strengthen local government administration by implementing the 2024 Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy.
He made the pledges on Friday during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre in Abeokuta.

Adeola said his proposed administration would focus on infrastructure, industrialisation, agriculture, healthcare, education, security and institutional reforms.
Describing his development programme as a “covenant” with the people of Ogun State, the senator urged journalists to hold him accountable for its implementation.
He said his experience in public finance and legislative oversight had prepared him for the governorship, citing his previous roles as chairman of finance and appropriations committees at both state and federal levels, as well as his current chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
Under his proposed infrastructure plan, Adeola said he would introduce the Ogun State Bus Mass Transit Programme along major corridors, including Abeokuta, Sango-Ota and Sagamu.
He also proposed working with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to establish commuter rail services linking Abeokuta with Lagos and connecting the state’s industrial corridors to the Lagos rail network.
Adeola further proposed “OgunRide”, a state-backed mobility platform for commercial cars, tricycles and motorcycles, which he said would provide drivers with health insurance, vehicle financing and cooperative support.
On youth empowerment, the APC candidate promised to establish a Youth Enterprise Hub in Abeokuta within his first six months in office, with satellite hubs across the state.
He said 100,000 young people would be trained in digital skills by 2031, while microcredit would be provided to young entrepreneurs. He also set a target of cutting youth unemployment by 40 per cent and creating more than 500,000 jobs.
On local government administration, Adeola said his government would implement financial autonomy for Ogun State’s 20 local government areas in line with the 2024 Supreme Court judgment. He said funds would flow directly to the councils without state-level interception or diversion.
Adeola also outlined plans for the agriculture sector, including mechanisation, farmer financing, climate-smart farming and the establishment of agro-industrial parks.
He proposed a State-Supported Produce Market and processing hubs to reduce post-harvest losses and improve farmers’ access to wider markets.
On industrialisation, the senator promised to establish a Solid Minerals Development Company to facilitate mining licences and joint ventures, while bringing artisanal miners into the formal economy through simplified licensing and cooperative support.
He also highlighted oil exploration opportunities in Ogun Waterside and frontier exploration around Tongeji Island in Ipokia, saying the areas could support the development of a coastal energy corridor.
In healthcare, Adeola pledged to revitalise the state health insurance scheme, “Ilera D’ero”, with a target of enrolling two million residents. He also promised investment in hospitals and primary healthcare facilities, as well as improved welfare for healthcare workers.
On education, he proposed expanded technical and vocational training, recruitment and training of teachers, and rehabilitation of classrooms and other learning facilities.
For security, Adeola promised increased funding for the Ogun State Security Trust Fund, alongside the establishment of a Cybersecurity and Security Operations Centre and a Residents Identity Management Agency.
He also proposed reforms in waste management, including the reorganisation of the Ogun State Waste Management Agency, licensed private waste operators, recycling hubs and waste-to-energy plants.
The APC candidate said his administration would work towards ending open defecation by 2031 while improving water, sanitation and physical planning across the state.
Adeola also proposed a Single Window Revenue Collection System to integrate PAYE, taxes, fees and levies across government. He said the system would target a 40 per cent increase in internally generated revenue and a three-to-fivefold increase in land revenue by 2031.
He commended the incumbent administration for the reported growth in the state’s revenue between 2021 and 2024, saying his proposed government would build on existing achievements.
Adeola further promised reforms in the justice sector, civil service and legislation, including improved training, welfare and remuneration for workers.
He also proposed auditing and valuing underutilised public assets, industrial parks and public lands, with commercialisation where appropriate to generate funds for development.
