2027: HAMZAT CALLS FOR MASSIVE VOTER TURNOUT IN LAGOS

Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has urged residents to come out in large numbers and vote for APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Hamzat made the call on Tuesday when members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), led by the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, visited his campaign office in Ikeja.
He expressed concern over low voter participation, saying that although about 6.2 million residents were registered to vote in Lagos during the last election, only about 1.2 million eventually cast their ballots.
Hamzat called on APC members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and communicate the achievements of the present administration to residents.
He also said the APC-led administration had made progress in areas including economic stability and the rule of law.
Speaking during the visit, Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said the engagement reflected COWLSO members’ commitment to the party and their willingness to openly support its candidates.
Ojelabi said the meeting was also important for consolidating support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, while stressing the need for continued grassroots sensitisation and unity within the party.
He cited infrastructure development, education and economic development as areas in which the APC-led government had recorded achievements.
The APC Deputy Governorship Candidate in Lagos State, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, described the visit as a demonstration of solidarity and a shared commitment to the development of Lagos State.
She acknowledged the contributions of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, describing her as a pillar of support to the state, and called for continued prayers and engagement from women as key stakeholders in governance.
Sonayon-James also called for stronger mobilisation of young people, noting that women have an important role to play in connecting government with the youth and encouraging political participation.
Representing COWLSO, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, assured the APC governorship candidate of the group’s support and commitment to voter mobilisation ahead of the elections.
She said COWLSO remained committed to strengthening grassroots engagement and encouraging greater participation by women in the democratic process.
The Director-General of the Lagos APC PBAT/KOH 2027 Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, said the meeting was aimed at strengthening collaboration and strategic partnerships ahead of the elections.
Obanikoro described women as important drivers of peace, mobilisation and community influence, adding that their involvement would be significant in engaging the large youth population between the ages of 18 and 35.
He stressed the importance of reaching this demographic as part of the party’s mobilisation efforts and expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that COWLSO members displayed placards in solidarity with the APC, with some reading: “COWLSO is your number one cheerleader: from the president and governor to all APC candidates across the state. We stand united in support.”
