2027: NORTH-CENTRAL APC FORUM URGES FIRST-TERM GOVERNORS TO STEP UP PERFORMANCE

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has urged first-term governors elected on the party’s platform to intensify their efforts and deliver more dividends of democracy to improve their chances of securing re-election.
The Forum said improved performance by the governors would strengthen the APC’s prospects of retaining control of all six states in the North-Central zone after the 2027 elections.
The Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday following the group’s second-quarter stakeholders’ consultative meeting in Abuja.
The first-term governors seeking re-election in 2027 are Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger and Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State.
Meanwhile, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa are serving their second terms and will not be eligible to contest for another term in 2027.
The Forum expressed its determination to ensure that the APC retains all states in the North-Central, stressing that the performance of the first-term governors would play a significant role in determining their electoral prospects.
It urged the governors to redouble their efforts in delivering good governance, particularly in the areas of security, agriculture, education, economic development, youth and women empowerment, and the general welfare of citizens.
“We urge the first-term governors in the North-Central to sit up in the discharge of their duties as the elections draw closer. Our target as the North-Central APC Forum is that the party will continue to retain control of all the states in the zone,” the Forum said.
The group also commended the governors of Niger and Plateau states, Mohammed Umaru Bago and Caleb Muftwang, respectively, for what it described as notable achievements in infrastructure, agriculture, security, economic development and empowerment.
According to the Forum, the Bago administration has embarked on major projects, including a 1,000-kilometre statewide road network, flyovers, a 500-hectare solar farm and industrial park in Diko/Sabon Wuse, the Minna urban renewal project and overhead bridge expansion, as well as a 500-unit housing estate in Kontagora.
In Plateau State, the Forum highlighted projects under the Muftwang administration, including the 19.7-kilometre Mangu Bypass, the Plateau Potato Value Chain Project and the remodelling of hospitality and sports facilities such as the Hill Station Hotel and Rwang Pam Township Stadium.
The Forum said the initiatives had contributed to improvements in security, economic empowerment and business activities in both states, while attracting private investment.
It, however, urged other first-term governors in the zone to build on their achievements and intensify their efforts ahead of the elections.
The group expressed confidence that the performance of the governors would help the APC achieve its target of securing six million votes from the North-Central for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The Forum had in December 2024 become one of the first political groups in the region to endorse Tinubu for a second term, pledging to mobilise six million votes for his re-election from the North-Central zone.
