81.24% SCORE FIVE CREDITS AS NABTEB RELEASES RESULTS

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board has released the results of the 2026 National Business Certificate and National Technical Certificate examinations, recording improved performance compared with the previous year.
A total of 100,069 candidates registered for the 2026 examinations, representing an increase of 7,193 from the 92,876 candidates who registered for the 2025 examination cycle.
The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NABTEB, Mohammed Mohammed, disclosed this while announcing the release of the results to journalists in Benin City.
According to him, 97,867 candidates eventually sat for the examinations out of the 100,069 registered candidates.
Mohammed said 79,503 candidates, representing 81.24 per cent of those graded, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
He added that 89,580 candidates, representing 91.53 per cent, obtained five credits and above, with or without English Language and Mathematics.
The NABTEB chief executive also disclosed that 24,128 candidates, representing 24.65 per cent of those graded, were certified as craftsmen.
He attributed the improved performance to the board’s commitment to promoting practical skills acquisition, occupational competence and technical and vocational education.
Mohammed said the 2026 results represented a substantial improvement over the performance recorded in the May/June 2025 NBC/NTC examinations.
He noted that in 2025, 61,104 candidates, representing 68.18 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, while 74,633 candidates, representing 83.28 per cent, obtained five credits and above, with or without English Language and Mathematics.
Describing the improvement in the 2026 results as encouraging, Mohammed said it reflected the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and the wider education system.
“These statistics provide useful indicators of performance; however, beyond the percentages lies the more important question of what these qualifications mean for the future of our young people and for Nigeria’s economic development,” he said.
Mohammed further explained that the NBC/NTC examinations occupied an important position within Nigeria’s technical and vocational education and training ecosystem.
According to him, the examinations provide structured pathways through which young Nigerians can obtain certification after acquiring theoretical, practical, occupational and entrepreneurial competencies relevant to the world of work and further academic progression.
He said the results underscored the growing relevance of business and technical education in equipping Nigerian youths with practical skills capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
The NABTEB boss added that the future of the nation would not be built by certificates alone but by the knowledge, character, competence and productive application of the skills those certificates represent.
