VIRAL VIDEO: VEHICLE INSPECTION OFFICERS SUMMONED BY MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION FOR NOT WEARING SEAT BELTS WHILE DRIVING
Farouq Oduola A.
A viral video of Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) being challenged by a member of the public for not using seat belts while driving has met public support and condemnation of the act by the officers.
Sources have disclosed to Hotjist.com that “the erring officials have been recalled to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation for necessary action.”
In the footage, a man walked up to the car with the five uniformed officers—two of whom were seated at the front without seat belt. The man then questioned them and demanded to know why they weren’t using seat belts, which is one of the traffic regulations they maintain and for which they punish violators.
The VIOs are tasked with Inspection and issuance of road worthiness certificate (RWC) to all vehicles, patrol and enforcement of traffic regulations among others – work with Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) which is a Directorate under the Ministry of Transportation.
Prior to this incident, there were other instances in which the general public complained about law enforcement officials who broke the law themselves but would not accept any justifications from offenders who committed the same offence.
