The Central Bank of Nigeria has refuted a bogus press release issued on the First Lady’s Instagram profile, Aisha Buhari.
According to the announcement uploaded on Aisha’s page on Tuesday, the old N500 and N1000 notes should be legal tender for the next 70 days, until May 1, 2023.
To debunk the news, the CBN issued another statement, labeling Aisha’s as “false news.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, and in accordance with Mr. President’s broadcast of February 16, 2023, The CBN has been directed to ONLY reissue and circulation the old N200 banknotes, which will be legal tender for 60 days till April 10, 2023.
“Members of the public should thus dismiss any message and/or information not explicitly provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria on this subject. Please verify any material from the correct sources before dissemination, media practitioners.”
The ‘false’ release was still on Aisha Buhari’s page at the time of reporting this story.
