ASAKE USED MY SONG IN “JOHA” – BLACKFACE
By Adeniyi Onaara
Asake is accused by Blackface of stealing his song for his popular single “Joha.”
One-third of the renowned Afrobeats group Afrobeats, Blackface, has been in the press for years despite retiring from the music industry due to his allegations of copyright violations by other artists.
In his most recent assertion, Blackface alleged that Asake, the raving sensation, stole his song “Ikebe Supper” for his popular single “Joha,” which is one of the songs off his 2022 debut album “Joha.”
Blackface stated in the interview that he is offended by the frequent and unreported use of his music by Afrobeats celebrities. He compares the artwork to his child and says that using his music without permission is comparable to child molestation.
Blackface responded that he wanted the group to show a united front and not to make any of them appear as though they were not contributing when asked why his writing with Platainshun Boiz bore the group’s name rather than his own.
In addition, Blackface has claimed ownership of the mega-hit song by his former Plantainshun Boiz bandmate 2baba, “African Queen.”
The phrase “Ikebe Supper,” which Asake used in “Joha” and is a well-known slang in Nigerian street parlance, is the basis for Blackface’s assertion. Neither record’s progression, beat pattern, or melody.
It’s also important to state that ‘Joha’ was first recorded circa 2014 while Asake was still an undergraduate at Obafemi Awolowo University and the version released in 2022 is a remake of the earlier version.
