UPDATE: TWO DIE AS TREE FALLS ON MANY IN KWARA
At Oke Andi, Sango district in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, a large branch of a large tree fell on bystanders, shop owners, and commuters waiting for commercial trucks, purportedly resulting in the immediate deaths of two people.
Seven people were reportedly impacted by the early Monday morning incident, with varied degrees of injuries.
According to one of the witnesses, the wounded were eventually taken to the General Hospital in Ilorin after first being transferred to adjacent private hospitals.
He further mentioned that the victim’s condition, which was transferred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), was stable and improving with medical intervention.
The incident was confirmed by State Commissioner for Health Amina El-Imam and Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Okasanmi Ajayi. The governor’s assistant did confirm one death, though.
“Seven persons were affected and rushed to the hospital. Two eventually died and others are still undergoing treatment.
“Investigation on the case is ongoing. Details of investigation would be made available as soon as it is concluded,” the police spokesperson said.
It was discovered that commuters and community residents both use the tree’s base as a place to board commercial vehicles.
The health commissioner expressed sympathy to the locals, reassured them of the government’s dedication to their welfare, and prayed for a quick recovery for each and every sufferer.
