ONDO ASSEMBLY WITHDRAWS IMPEACHMENT APPEAL FILED AGAINST AIYEDATIWA

The Ondo State House of Assembly and its Speaker have dropped their appeal against the Federal High Court of Abuja’s decision to stay the scheduled impeachment of Ondo State Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, which was filed before the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The Ondo State House of Assembly and its Speaker had contested the Federal High Court’s authority to hear the case and had filed an appeal against the court’s decision to put the deputy governor’s scheduled impeachment on hold.
Remi Olatobura, the Speaker and Assembly’s attorney, informed the three-person appellate court justice panel on Thursday that his clients have instructed him to abandon the appeal.
The matter’s parties have signed an agreement to drop their appeal and have found a political solution to their issues, the senior attorney informed the court.
Olatubora claims that the appeal is being abandoned for the sake of peace and in accordance with the parties’ agreement.
The respondents in the appeal acknowledged that they received the notice of withdrawal and stated that they had no objections.
The appeal was later dismissed by the three-member panel’s leader, Justice Haruna Tsammani, when the appellants withdrew it.
The orders made ex parte by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on September 26 prohibiting the Ondo State Governor, its Chief Judge, the House of Assembly, its Speaker, and others from moving forward with their planned impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, until the outcome of a pending motion on notice for interlocutory injunctions are the subject of the appeal filed on October 3 by the Ondo Assembly and its Speaker.
President Bola Tinubu met with the deputy governor and members of the state assembly last week in Abuja, and the parties decided to lay down their swords.
