SOKOTO GOV APPROVES OVER N18BN CONTRACTS FOR ROAD PROJECTS

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State on Wednesday approved the awards of 10 projects worth over N18bn.

This was part of the resolution reached at the state executive meeting held at the Council Chamber, Government House, Sokoto, and presided over by the governor.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the state Commissioner for Information, Bello Danchadi, said the projects were part of the agenda of the All Progressives Congress-led administration in the state to build a new state.

Danchadi said the projects include road construction, and rural electrification, among others.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Works, Nasir Danstoho, said the executive session approved the award of the contract for Runjin Sambo inner road at the cost of N2.189bn

“We also approved the award of contract for the rehabilitation of the Bodinga line along Maiduguri road for N816,289,000

“Reconstruction of Forces Avenue and Lodge Road for N488,890,000 as well as reconstruction of old market and roundabout along Ali Akilu road for N998,518,000  and that of Gidan maadan roundabout for 94,731,918,35,” he said.

Also speaking, Commissioner for Environment, Nura Tangaza, said the government had awarded the construction of culverts along Silame-Bimji road at the cost of N2.244 bn.

He also explained that the government will replace all the generator-powered streetlights across the metropolis with solar-powered streetlights for the sum of N1.75bn naira, while another streetlight was awarded for five new roads at the cost of N97m.

The state Commissioner for Water Resources who also addressed newsmen said rehabilitation of 47 inner roads in Tundun Wada and Aguwanrogo area of the state metropolis was awarded at the cost of N8.99bn.
