By Aishat Momoh. O.
Legendary Nollywood actor and Kabiyesi of Village Headmaster Television series, Dejumo Vincent Lewis, has been finally laid to rest in Lagos on Friday. The actor died after a brief illness on December 22 at the age of 80.
A lying-in-state ceremony was earlier held for the veteran at a private morgue, as a burial mass was conducted shortly after at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos Island.
His remains was later committed to mother earth at a private internment which was not accessible to the public as requested by the immediate family members.
Dejumo was well known for his active role as Kabiyesi, when he became a cast of the nascent drama series, ‘The Village Headmaster’, which fortuitously became the longest running soap opera, that aired on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) from 1968-1988.
His role eclipsed his equally formidable career as a producer and director. He cherry-picked the movies in which he featured, such as in Agogo Ewo in 2002, A place in the star in 2014, Power of 1 in 2018, Crossroads in 2020 and Abeni Oosa in 2023.
Demola who represented the children, described his father as a disciplinarian and a patriot to the core.
He however Eulogized in Yoruba, as he revealed that he will be missed deeply.
Meanwhile, Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of Lagos in his Letter to the family on January 29, 2024, commiserated with the family, while praying for comfort and endeavor to bear the sorrow of his death.
He however, urged them to take heart and bear the separation with Christ-like fortitude, believing that he will rise with the saints on the day of the resurrection.
