As part of its unrelenting effort to build an all-inclusive Government, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, is setting up modalities for indigent youth engagement and sensitization, aimed at creating a platform for dialogue, collaboration and poverty alleviation.

The Special Adviser, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi disclosed this recently during a media chat with the crew of Lagos Television “So ti e”, an indigenous magazine programme in his office at the Alausa, Secretariat, Ikeja.

The Special Adviser said that the Lagos State Government is leaving no one behind on its #Greater Lagos journey, hence the need to engage indigent youths to know and address the key issues, provide resources, support, and create an enabling environment for them to thrive and make meaningful contributions in their communities.

He said, “The Lagos State Government has established a series of empowerment programmes and outreach activities, through various MDAs across Lagos, but we find out that some of these indigent youths are yet to key into these opportunities, so we are going to be engaging them ward by ward in their Local Government Areas, as well as their Local Government Development Areas to find out the reason and as well educate them more on the need to enrol and acquire the required knowledge and skills they need to succeed and navigate the challenges of today’s world”.

While speaking on other activities of the Office, which include the Financial Assistance Programme, the Special Adviser averred that the Governor Babajde Sanwo-Olu  Administration is also willing to provide financial aid through the ongoing Financial Assistance Programme to some of these youths that might require it for  Educational Support, Accommodation aid as well as Small Business Grant.

Outlining the various efforts put up by Mr Governor’s Administration to cushion the effect of the global economic crunch and the rising cost of food items, the Special Adviser mentioned the “Ounje Eko” Discount Food Market and the 25% Reduction in the cost of State-Owned Transport Service initiatives, among others
Dr Afolabi urged all Lagosians to key into all these laudable initiatives and should expect more as the government is not resting on its oars in bringing up more interventions aimed at reducing the hardship Lagosians are facing at this trying time.
