LAGOS JUDICIARY MOURNS JUSTICE JOSEPHINE OYEFESO, WHO DIES AT 65

The Lagos State Judiciary has announced the passing of one of its senior jurists, Justice Josephine Efunkumbi Oyefeso, who died on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the age of 65.

In a statement, the judiciary described her death as a great loss, noting that she served with “exceptional dedication, integrity and unwavering commitment” to the administration of justice.

Throughout her judicial career, Justice Oyefeso was widely recognised for her diligence, fairness, and strong sense of duty in handling cases, contributing meaningfully to the development of Lagos State’s justice system.

The statement, issued on behalf of the Chief Judge, judges, magistrates, and staff of the judiciary, expressed deep sorrow over her demise and extended condolences to her family, colleagues, and associates.

It read in part: “Hon. Justice Oyefeso served the judiciary with exceptional dedication, integrity and unwavering commitment to the administration of justice.”

Her passing marks the end of a distinguished career on the bench, during which she earned respect from both the Bar and the Bench.

The judiciary prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul, saying, “May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
