ISRAEL-GAZA WAR: US THREATENS ICC OVER MOVE TO ARREST ISRAEL’S NETANYAHU

The United States of America is set to impose sanctions against International Criminal Court officials.

Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State, made this disclosure on Tuesday.

The Guardian UK reports that the US is prepared to collaborate with Congress to perhaps impose sanctions against the members of the world’s highest court.

This came following the prosecutor’s call for Israeli leaders to be placed under custody in connection with the Gaza War.

At a Senate appropriations subcommittee hearing on Tuesday, Blinken was told by Republican Lindsey Graham that he wanted to see renewed US sanctions on the court.

Recall that ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan announced on Monday a move by the ICC to arrest both the Israeli and Hamas leaders.

ā€œI want to take actions, not just words,ā€ Graham said to Blinken.

ā€œWill you support [a] bipartisan effort to sanction the ICC, not only for the outrage against Israel but to protect, in the future, our own interest?ā€

ā€œI welcome working with you on that,ā€ Blinken said.

Khan had said in his announcement that he had reasonable grounds to believe that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Israelā€™s defense chief and three Hamas leaders ā€œbear criminal responsibilityā€ for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity
