The Chairman of the South West Governors Forum and Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated the Yoruba people on Isese Day, celebrated today, August 20, 2024, across all six states in the region.

He commended the traditional rulers and people of the South West for upholding the cultural and traditional virtues of the Yoruba race.

Governor Sanwo-Olu issued this commendation in a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile.

He noted that, although the world has become a global village with resulting multiculturalism, the Yoruba people possess unique cultures and traditions that must be preserved for future generations.

The governor praised the South West people, especially the traditional rulers and traditional religious worshippers, for their efforts in sustaining and preserving Yoruba cultural heritage.

While celebrating the Yoruba monarchs and people of the South West for upholding these cultural and traditional virtues, Governor Sanwo-Olu encouraged them to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of the Yoruba “Omoluabi” ethos.

This ethos includes tolerance, hospitality, and peaceful coexistence among themselves, different religious groups, and their neighbors, which should remain hallmarks of the Yoruba people.

Sanwo-Olu, who declared a public holiday in Lagos State to commemorate Isese Day, also praised his fellow governors for declaring today a public holiday in their respective states to celebrate Isese Day.
