The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has confiscated 33,595 liters of gasoline in drums and jerry cans that were intended for smuggling into the neighboring Cameroon Republic.
The seizures were carried out in August and September 2024, according to a Thursday announcement from the NCS’s Adamawa/Taraba Area Command headquarters in Yola.
Garba Bashir, the Adamawa/Taraba NCS Area Comptroller, told reporters at his office that the confiscated gasoline was worth more than N71 million.
He described the confiscated goods as 26 barrels with a combined capacity of 220 liters and 1,115 jerry cans with a capacity of 25 liters each.
Bashir listed additional things that were taken, including 10 bales of used clothing, 200 50kg bags of foreign flour, 57 50kg bags of parboiled rice, and three vehicles that were used to transport the seized gasoline.
Bashir said that the gasoline containers that were seized from several border crossings in the states of Adamawa and Taraba would be put up for sale to the general public.
