JUST IN: AUSTRALIAN PLANE MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING AFTER ENGINE FAILURE
On Friday, an engine failed on a passenger plane leaving Sydney, Australia, prompting the plane to circle before making a safe emergency landing, Qantas said on X.
A grass fire also broke out along one side of the runway, according to another report from Sydney Airport.
Whether the two instances were connected or not remains unknown. Although there may likely be some aircraft delays, the fire has since been extinguished.
The twin-engine Boeing 737-800 was headed towards Brisbane when the engine allegedly failed with a loud noise; however, Qantas did not reveal how many people were on board. There were no reported injuries.
“We understand this would have been a distressing experience for customers, and we will be contacting all customers this afternoon to provide support,” stated Qantas Chief Pilot, Captain Richard Tobiano. “We will also be conducting an investigation into the cause of the engine issue.”
