POLICE INVESTIGATE DROWNING DEATHS OF FOUR INDIVIDUALS IN EKITI
On Monday, the Ekiti State police announced that they had started looking into the deaths of four people who drowned in a river in Okemesi Ekiti, which is located in the Ekiti West Local Government area.
According to Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ekiti State Command, the four individuals reportedly went swimming in the river on Sunday.
Abutu stated, “A distress report received on November 10, 2024, has it that on the same date, a 23-year-old and a 25-year-old, both natives of Okemesi Ekiti, went to River Osun Ajindo/Ido Ile Road to swim alongside two of their friends who came from Lagos State to attend a burial ceremony which took place at Okemesi.
“The four young men unfortunately got drowned. Their bodies have been recovered and deposited in the morgue, while investigation is underway,” the police spokesperson said.
According to town sources, two of the victims were locals, while the other two who joined them for a swim in the river were from Lagos for a community gathering.
A source said, “The incident threw the community into panic and mourning. Imagine four persons dead in the circumstance. May God prevent such unfortunate occurrence in our dear community.”
