Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo Olu has praised the State AIDS Control Agency’s (LSACA) commitment to combating the state’s HIV/AIDS epidemic.

During the closing ceremony of the Y2024 Trade Fair, which was recently held in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, Sanwo-Olu made this announcement while examining the LSACA exhibits.

The Governor emphasized the state government’s dedication to providing its citizens with sustainable healthcare delivery, adding that the state understood the need of preserving good health for increased productivity.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that early detection is a critical step for getting high-quality care and praised the large number of participants in the free HIV screening and counseling exercise. He added that the initiative’s goals were to raise awareness and make healthcare services more easily accessible so that more people could find out their current situation and, if needed, get help right away.

The Governor advised citizens to improve their health-seeking behaviors in order to continue being healthy and contributing members of society, while reaffirming that the current administration will not compromise in implementing initiatives aimed at providing a sustainable healthcare system.

The free screening exercise was intended to raise awareness and offer preventative support to attendees and exhibitors at the event, according to Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, Chief Executive Officer of LSACA. The organization uses free HIV screening and counseling services as one of its outreach strategies.

Dr. Animashaun went on to say that the Trade FAIR drew a wide range of people who were interested in learning more about HIV and its effects on public health, including visitors, company owners, and entrepreneurs.

In her words, “The positive response from participants reflects a growing commitment to health and preventative measures in the fight against HIV as the free screening initiative not only serves to increase awareness about HIV but also fosters responsible practices within the community to reduce the risk of transmission”.

She also urged citizens to take proactive measures to take care of their health, promising that the Agency will carry on with such programs in future events to raise health awareness and lessen the stigma attached to HIV testing.

In order to stop the virus’s spread, the state is working to increase awareness campaigns, improve access to healthcare services, and increase the number of HIV testing and counseling centers throughout the state. Animashaun emphasized the importance of HIV testing for leading a healthy and productive life.

However, the CEO praised the trade fair organizers for a job well done. The event successfully promoted health and wellness in the state in addition to exhibiting businesses, allowing for increased community engagement and awareness.
