CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS COMMEND PEACEFUL CONDUCT OF 2024 ONDO STATE GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION
A coalition of civil society organizations called the Democracy and Good Government Watch Initiative, which monitored the 2024 Ondo State gubernatorial election on November 16, 2024, has praised the people of Ondo State for holding the election peacefully throughout the state’s 18 local government council areas.
In a press statement released in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, the coalition praised the people of Ondo State for peacefully electing a new leader to lead the state’s affairs for the ensuing four years.
As the entire world awaits a credible end to the process with the announcement and proclamation of the election victor, the coalition specifically praised INEC for an outstanding performance in carrying out its duties in the Ondo State gubernatorial election.
The security services were commended by the organization for their professionalism and commitment to duty, which made sure that the election was peaceful throughout the state.
The local and international civil society organizations and media that were authorized to watch the election were also praised for adhering to the rules of engagement by covering and watching the election in accordance with international best practices.
The coalition, however, expressed disapproval of the isolated instances of vote buying that were reported in certain polling places. They regret that, even though the incidents are not significant enough to undermine the election’s legitimacy, they are still reason for concern because Nigerians expect the best election management practices that should serve as a model for the rest of the world.
