COPYRIGHT CONTROVERSY: SINACH FACES N5BN LAWSUIT OVER ‘WAY MAKER’ SONG
Michael Oluwole, a music producer, has filed a lawsuit against Sinach, a well-known gospel singer, alleging copyright violations.
For her 2016 hit song “Way Maker,” Oluwole, also known as Maye, filed a N5 billion lawsuit against Sinach.
In the lawsuit with the number FHC/L/CS/402/2024, Maye is requesting a declaration that he is the song’s songwriter and co-owner. He is also requesting N5 billion in general damages for the cumulative infringement of his rights.
Sinach, who claimed to be the song’s only songwriter, refuted the producer’s claims while pointing out that she was already well-known throughout the world before the release of “Way Maker.”
The trial was postponed to January 29 and 30, 2025, after starting on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, in the Federal High Court in Lagos.
