EU chief Ursula von der Leyen Friday congratulated Francois Bayrou on his appointment as French prime minister, after the country’s deeply divided parliament ousted his predecessor in a budget standoff.
“You have always had Europe at heart,” the commission chief told the new centrist premier in a French-language post on X. “Let us work together for a stronger and more competitive Europe, with the means to defend itself.”
