The Kogi State Government has shut down the Daarul Kitab Islamic Training Centre located in Zariagi, Adavi Local Government Area, over allegations that it was operating without official government approval.
The action followed the April 26 attack on the school by armed men who kidnapped 23 students and the proprietor’s wife.
The victims were subsequently rescued during a joint operation involving the Nigerian Army, the Kogi State Police Command, and other security agencies.
The state Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, personally supervised the closure on Friday alongside ministry officials.
Jones instructed the school proprietor to report to the Ministry of Education without delay, noting that the institution would remain sealed until it met all legal and regulatory requirements for operation.
He added that the government would continue to uphold strict standards in the establishment and running of educational institutions across the state.
“The Kogi State Government is alive to its responsibility of ensuring that schools in the state are conducive and safe for teaching and learning,” Jones said.
Jones noted that although the proprietor had started the registration process, the school was not expected to commence operations before receiving official approval.
He added that the government would continue monitoring schools across the state to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
The abduction at the school had sparked concern among residents after armed men invaded the premises and whisked away pupils and the proprietor’s wife.
