Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has obtained the African Democratic Congress presidential expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of the 2027 general elections, promising to tackle insecurity, generate employment and reduce the rising cost of living affecting Nigerians.

Hayatu-Deen, a respected economist, became the first aspirant to purchase the ADC presidential nomination form. He received the documents from the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, in what supporters described as a major boost for his presidential ambition, according to a statement issued by his media team on Friday.

After receiving the N100 million forms, Hayatu-Deen stressed that the 2027 elections should centre on restoring economic stability and improving national security.

“Nigerians are exhausted from living in fear. They are watching businesses struggle, jobs disappear, and the prices of essential goods move beyond the reach of ordinary citizens,” he said in the statement.

He added, “This election cannot continue with politics as usual. It must focus on securing communities, rebuilding confidence in the economy, creating jobs on a large scale, and making life more affordable for millions of Nigerians.

“Prosperity cannot thrive where fear and instability persist. Security remains the bedrock of every successful economy.”

The ADC presidential hopeful also pledged to introduce policies aimed at reducing the cost of doing business, supporting small enterprises, creating opportunities for young people and promoting inclusive economic development.

“I have spent decades helping businesses expand and supporting job creation. I understand what it takes to build strong institutions, attract investment and create opportunities at scale. Nigeria has enormous talent and potential, but what we need is disciplined leadership and effective implementation. That is why I have decided to step forward,” he stated.

The African Democratic Congress announced that the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms would run from May 6 to May 13.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state House of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.

INEC also disclosed that political party primaries and the settlement of related disputes would take place between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

According to the commission, campaigns for presidential and National Assembly elections will begin on August 19, 2026, while governorship and state Assembly campaigns are expected to commence on September 9, 2026.
