NIGERIAN TROOPS NEUTRALISE SCORES OF TERRORISTS IN FAILED MAGUMERI RAID

Scores of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists, alongside two soldiers, were killed on Thursday after troops foiled an attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Magumeri under Sector 3 of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI.
Magumeri, a local government headquarters located about 46 kilometres from Maiduguri, came under attack in the early hours of Thursday.
Troops also recovered several weapons and ammunition from the fleeing insurgents following the encounter.
Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Friday, the Media Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the base under poor visibility conditions.
According to him, although the attackers managed to breach an isolated section of the camp, troops responded swiftly and repelled the assault after an intense gun battle.

“Troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI successfully contained the attack launched by ISWAP terrorists on FOB MAGUMERI under Sector 3,” the statement read.
Uba said the troops inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists, noting that further operations in the area uncovered blood trails, dragged bodies, and several corpses believed to belong to the insurgents.
He added that troops recovered a cache of weapons, including PKT anti-aircraft guns, AK-47 rifles, and loaded magazines.
The military, however, confirmed the death of two soldiers during the battle, while an officer and other injured personnel are currently receiving medical treatment and are said to be in stable condition.
Some military equipment and temporary structures were also reportedly damaged by fire during the exchange of gunfire.
Uba said troops have continued clearance and exploitation operations around the area to consolidate on the success recorded during the encounter and assess further damage inflicted on the terrorists.
He added that the failed attack demonstrated the resilience and fighting spirit of Operation HADIN KAI troops in denying terrorists freedom of movement across the North-East theatre.
