Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper, identified as Adegbenro Adeola, following a dramatic chase that led to the rescue of an abducted victim in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, revealing that the suspect is believed to be a member of a gang terrorising parts of the city.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, when officers on routine patrol along the Oba-Ile axis received intelligence about a distress situation involving a man inside a moving vehicle.
The operatives reportedly spotted a red Toyota Camry from which a victim was heard shouting for help.
“Upon receipt of the report, the operatives swiftly mobilised and pursued the suspected vehicle,” the statement read.
During the chase, the suspects allegedly pushed the victim, later identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving vehicle in a bid to evade arrest.
The police, however, continued the pursuit and successfully arrested Adeola, while other members of the gang escaped. The vehicle allegedly used for the operation was also recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road, Akure, before the police intervention.
Jimoh said the rescued victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect has provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
The case has since been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit in Akure as efforts continue to track down the fleeing suspects.
The police command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies to support efforts at tackling crime in the state.
